Lucknow: Controversy regarding Ramcharitmanas is escalating in UP. At least eight people have been booked in Lucknow, capital of Uttar Pradesh, for desecration of the holy book.
They have been accused of tearing pages of Ramcharitmanas and then burning it in the Vrindavan Yojna area of the city on Sunday.
Police said an FIR has been lodged at the PGI police station in Lucknow. PGI Statin House Officer (SHO) Rajesh Rana said that the FIR was filed after a complaint was received from a BJP member Satnam Singh Lavi.
All India OBC Mahasabha members protested
Protests were held in Lucknow on Sunday by burning some copies of Ramcharitmanas. All India OBC Mahasabha office bearers demonstrated while extending their to support of SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya. The Mahasabha had already announced the protest.
The workers reached the housing development office of Vrindavan Sector-9 at around 9.30 am on Sunday. Here they raised slogans against Ramcharitmanas and demanded a ban on it. Also said that either amendment should be made in it or caste census should be done.
Maurya had kicked up a controversy
Maurya, a prominent OBC leader in Uttar Pradesh, had kicked up a controversy by alleging that certain verses of the Ramcharitmanas "insult" a large section of society on the basis of caste and demanded that these be "banned."
Workers of All India OBC Mahasabha gathered in Mohanlalganj. OBC and Dalit Morcha boycotted Ramcharitmanas and burned copies.
OBC Mahasabha member Devendra Yadav said, "Whatever objectionable comments in Ramcharitmanas are against women empowerment, against Shudras or Dalit society and against OBCs, they should be removed. Only then this protest will calm down. Otherwise this protest will continue."
Seer announces reward for beheading Maurya
After this statement, the Hindu society is demonstrating everywhere in the country. People are burning his effigies. On the other hand OBC Morcha has openly come in support of Swami Prasad Maurya.
Yet another priest in Ayodhya has announced a reward of Rs 21 lakh for beheading Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Swami Prasad Maurya who disrespected Ramcharitmanas. Mahant Raju Das of Hanuman Garhi temple in Ayodhya has made this announcement.
Earlier Paramhans Das of Tapasvi Chhavni had announced a reward of Rs 500 for anyone who cuts the tongue of Maurya.
