Strong Earthquake Jolts Nepal, Tremors Felt In Delhi-NCR, Several Indian States


New Delhi: An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale hit Nepal at 2.28 pm Tuesday, with tremors felt in parts of North India, including the Delhi-NCR region.

Strong tremors of earthquake were felt in Delhi-NCR for 30 seconds. The epicenter of the earthquake was 12 km from Kalika in Nepal. Its intensity was measured at 5.8. 

There were no immediate reports of damage from Nepal, however, it will be too soon to comment on the same. Scores of people across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and some other areas took to social media platforms and shared that they felt strong tremors that shook ceiling fans and other hanging objects.

Tremors felt in several other states

Apart from Delhi-NCR, the effect of the earthquake was also felt in some areas of Uttarakhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana. In the neighboring country China too, the earth trembled in many areas.

This is the third incident of earthquake in the capital since the beginning of the new year. Earlier on January 5, strong tremors of earthquake were felt in Delhi-NCR and Kashmir.

Frequent tremors in Delhi NCR

Earthquake tremors are happening again and again in Delhi NCR. IIT Kanpur's research has made a big claim regarding frequent earthquakes in North-India and Nepal. According to this, a catastrophic earthquake can occur anytime in the Himalayan states of India. This earthquake may be similar to the earthquakes in 1505 and 1803.
