Weather News: Cold Wave, Dense Fog Alerts Issued; Cold Wave To Continue In Most Parts


New Delhi: The cold wave in Uttar Pradesh has intensified, with 25 people dying in Kanpur on Thursday due to heart attacks and brain strokes. 

The night temperature in Kanpur reached 3.2 degree Celsius. Doctors said the sudden increase in blood pressure in the cold and blood clotting is causing heart attacks and brain strokes.

Sharp dip in mercury in Rajasthan

Amid a cold wave prevailing in North India, Rajasthan's Bikaner recorded a minimum temperature of 0°C while Churu recorded a minimum temperature of 1.0°C. Rajasthan is chilling with -6 degree temperature in Mount Abu.

Madhya Pradesh's Nowgong in Chhatarpur district recorded 0.2°C. The condition of cold is that schools have been closed in some districts of MP. 

Delhi is colder than Shimla-Nainital. The temperature in the national capital was recorded at 1.8 degrees Celsius. Dense fog reduced visibility to 50 meters in the morning.

Orange alert of cold wave in Delhi

Orange alert of cold wave has been issued in Delhi. According to the Meteorological Department, snowfall will resume in the hilly areas from January 7. Due to this, the temperature in the plains of North India may fall further, due to which the cold will increase.

Cold wave will continue to engulf most parts 

The IMD has predicted that the cold wave will continue to engulf most parts of the country, with the mercury expected to dip in Central India and East India over the next 24 hours. Scattered rainfall is also expected over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the Islands. The minimum temperature in East India is expected to drop by 2-4 degrees Celsius during the next 24 hours, according to the IMD.

Kashmir valley freezing

Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -5.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday night, while it was -5.8 degrees in Qazigund, -5.6 degrees in Kupwara, -5 degrees Celsius in Gulmarg. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of snowfall in many places in the next few days.

Fog alert

Skymet said during the next 24 hours, very dense fog at few places and dense fog at many places is possible over Indo Gangetic plains from Punjab to Bihar across Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Moderate fog is possible over North and East Rajasthan and northern parts of Madhya Pradesh.

Cold wave conditions are possible over parts of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab and West Uttar Pradesh.

Cold wave conditions may continue over parts of Punjab, Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh.

Isolated light rain and snow is possible over upper reaches of Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Jammu and Kashmir.
