Famous South Singer Vani Jairam Passes Away

Chennai: Famous South singer Vani Jairam, who was recently awarded the Padma Bhushan, passed away at the age of 77. According to media reports, she had suffered a head injury a long time ago, due to which she used to remain ill. 

The singer of timeless songs like Mere To Girdhar Gopal and Bole Re Papihara was found dead on Saturday morning at her home in Chennai. The reason for her death has not been clarified yet. Vani Jairam has been honored with the Padma Bhushan Award 2023.

Vani's maid came for work today, but she did not get any response despite repeated calls. She informed her relatives who then called the police.

Vani lived alone in her apartment

The cops broke open the door and found her dead in the apartment. Vani Jairam's husband had passed away a few years back and she used to live alone in her apartment in Chennai.
Reports from people close to her suggest she might have slipped and suffered a fall.

Received Filmfare Award in 1980

Vaani has also given many great songs to Bollywood. In the year 1980, Vani was awarded the Filmfare Award for the song, Mere To Girdhar Gopal... from the film Meera. The song Bole Re Papihara... sung by her in the film Guddi also became very famous. 

Apart from this, she was also awarded the Sangeet Peeth Samman in the year 1991, Vani was the youngest singer to receive this honor. Then her age was 46 years.

Was a part of film industry for five decades

She was a part of the film industry for five decades, and received the National Best Playback Singer award thrice, besides state awards in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Odisha.
Vani worked with veteran composers like MS Ilaiyaraaja, RD Burman, KV Mahadevan, OP Nayyar and Madan Mohan. He started his career with the film Swapnam.
