Gehlot And Shivraj's Temper Flares Up On Chambal Water, Face To Face Over Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project

Jaipur/Bhopal: The political temperature in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh is high these days regarding the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Union Water Power Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat are at loggerheads on this issue and are fiercely retaliating against each other. Now, in this fight, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan has surrounded Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan as well.

In fact, the Madhya Pradesh government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court to stop the work on Chambal and its tributaries in the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP), Ashok Gehlot has made many allegations against Madhya Pradesh.

Appeal to stop the work of Eastern Rajasthan Canal Scheme

The purpose of the Eastern Canal Project is to quench the thirst of the people of Rajasthan. The thirst of the people of 13 districts of the state will be quenched through the project. Not only this, farmers will also get the benefit of this, their fields will be irrigated. Their need for water can be met.

This will prove to be a life-saving project for eastern Rajasthan. The Eastern Rajasthan Canal Scheme was announced during the BJP regime. In the budget of the year 2017-2018, the then Vasundhara Raje government had arranged a budget for this.

Politics on project

After the announcement of the old pension scheme and halving cylinder prices by Congress, now the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project has created trouble for the BJP.

Former Deputy CM Sachin Pilot is also seen standing with CM Ashok Gehlot regarding this project. Although the series of attacks between the BJP and the Congress over the project have been going on for a long time, but with the elections only a few months away, the issue is heating up. The Congress has been continuously demanding that ERCP be given the status of a national project.

After all what is ERCP project

The Shivraj government of Madhya Pradesh has filed a petition in the Supreme Court to stop the ongoing work on the Chambal and its tributaries in the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP). This is the reason why the politics of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are likely to heat up. CM Ashok Gehlot has targeted the Madhya Pradesh government over the petition.

In such a situation, CM Ashok Gehlot has issued a statement. In which he said that MP government's petition filed in the Supreme Court to ban the work of ERCP is an attempt to deprive Rajasthan of its share of water.

Gehlot said by stopping the work of ERCP, Madhya Pradesh government is trying to stop the rightful water of 13 districts of our eastern Rajasthan. ERCP will supply water to Jhalawar, Baran, Kota, Bundi, Tonk, Sawai Madhopur, Karauli, Dhaulpur, Bharatpur, Dausa, Alwar, Jaipur and Ajmer districts.

Chambal river originates from Janapav hill of MP

Chambal river originates from Janapav hills of Madhya Pradesh. This area is a part of Vidhyanchal mountain. And the river flows through Madhya Pradesh, passes through Rajasthan and joins the Yamuna river in the state of Uttar Pradesh. From here the Yamuna joins the river Ganges and the Ganges falls into the Bay of Bengal.
