Mumbai: Former India bowler Irfan Pathan has said that the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be special for the debutants and they will be looking forward to making their Test debut against one of the strongest teams in world cricket.
Pathan said, “I think the pressure is definitely there, but playing against Australia, one of the best teams in the world, is very exciting. When I played my first match against Australia in Australia, they were the champion team. But I cannot forget that we won that Test match after 21 years. So this is the kind of history you make and it stays with you forever. So I think those players would be looking to do the same, very excited for the challenges that lie ahead of them."
The Australian cricket team is visiting India for a four-match test series against Team India, along with three-match ODI series. Team India is hopeful to register a third consecutive victory in Border-Gavaskar Trophy during India vs. Australia test series 2023.
India hopes to confirm their seat in World Test Championship final
The men in blue will also look forward to confirming their seat in World Test Championship final, and they currently sit at number 2 in the overall world ranking. Nagpur, Dharamshala, Delhi and Ahmedabad have been chosen as the venues for the much-awaited four-Test series between India and Australia.
India is currently the number one ranked team in ODI and T20 cricket. Rohit Sharma's men will also go on top in the longest format of the game if they win the four-match Test series starting even by a 2-1 margin. By winning this series, India can also reach the final of the World Test Championship, where it will probably face Australia.
First match of Test series from Feb 9
The first match of the Test series will start on February 9. The Australian team arrived in Bengaluru on February 1, where they will stay for five days before heading to Nagpur for their first match.
Pathan has said that he would like to see Virat Kohli take an aggressive approach against spin bowlers in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Irfan said, “Kohli will definitely keep in mind how to respond to the spin of Nathan Lyon and Ashton Agar. He has struggled against spin in the recent past. I think he can be a bit more aggressive as his strike rate against spin has also come down.”
