Indore: The name of Indore's Emerald International School student Pradyuman Singh Rathore, who is part of Madhya Pradesh's water sports team, has been recorded in the pages of the history of Khelo India Youth Games. Pradyuman, who won the gold medal in canoe slalom event at Sahasradhara near Maheshwar on Monday, says that Sahasradhara's picture has completely changed after MP got the hosting of KIYG. Now this venue of water slalom has become world-class. Indian athletes associated with this sport are going to benefit a lot in the coming times.
Sahastradhara is one of popular waterfalls
At a distance of 7 km from Maheshwar Bus Station, Sahastradhara Waterfall is a wonderful waterfall located in Maheshwar, Madhya Pradesh. Situated in Jalkoti, it is one of the popular waterfalls in Madhya Pradesh, and among the must-visit Maheshwar tourist places. Sahastradhara literally means a thousand streams.
It is noteworthy that Madhya Pradesh government had announced six years ago that Maheshwar has now become India's first water slalom centre. The venue has improved a lot since then under the supervision of state Sports Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia.
Pradyuman, who has participated in many international events, is participating in Khelo India for the first time. Although he has represented India in many international events, but since water sports (canoeing, kayaking and water slalom) have been included in the Khelo India Youth Games for the first time, he has also been able to debut in these sports.
Pradyuman has represented India in five international events
Pradyuman, who took up the sport four years ago, has represented India in five international events. These include three World Cups which were held in Spain, Italy and Germany. He has also participated in two Asian Championships held in Iran and Thailand.
Pradyuman says, in Thailand, I stood fourth overall in the junior category. Youngest Player of the Continent award was received in Iran, which was a big award for me. My best performance so far from India was in the World Cup held in Spain, Italy and Germany.
'We can improve our performance'
Pradyumna says about the facilities present in Maheshwar, this venue has now become of international standard. There was a lot of improvement in this. Earlier there were many stones here. There was a lot of difficulty in reaching the river. Everything is good here now. It is very easy to bring the boat to the river and due to this we save a lot of time and energy, which we can use in our game and improve our performance and timing.
'Khelo India is a great platform'
Regarding Khelo India, Pradyuman said, Khelo India is a great platform. The facilities here are world class. We are participating in Khelo India for the first time and the arrangements here can be said to be similar to venues like the World Cup and Asian Championships.
What is water slalom
It is also called canoe slalom. It is organized in running water, which is also called white water. It has two gates on the course. One green which is made with the flow of water and the other red which is made in the opposite direction of the flow of water. The start is from the Green Gate and the race ends through the Red Gate. In this the length of the course is 250 to 300 meters. A total of 18 to 25 gates are inserted in it, in which at least 6 upstream gates are inserted.
The player has to avoid two types of penalties. If a player touches the pins of the gates, 2 seconds are added to his running time and if you miss a gate, then 50 seconds are added to your time. When you reach the finish line the penalty will be added to your score and then your final score will come. The event is organized in heats, semi-finals and final format.
