Turkey Earthquake: One Indian On Business Visit Missing, Ten Others Stuck In Different Parts Of Country

New Delhi: One Indian has gone in Turkey, while 10 others are stuck in some remote parts but they are safe.

The Indian who is missing was on a business visit. “He has not been traced in the last two days. We are in touch with his family and the company in Bengaluru which employs him," Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Sanjay Verma said.

3000 Indians reside in Turkey

The number of Indians residing in Turkey is about 3,000, out of which about 1,800 live in and around Istanbul, while 250 are in Ankara and rest are spread all over the country.

Specialist teams sent by India to Turkey have begun their search and rescue operations.

Verma said three Indians had approached the Indian government and had been taken to a safe location. He said the Indians in Turkey are comparatively safe.

Verma said the Indian Embassy had received calls from around 75 people asking seeking information and assistance," he said. 

"We set up a control room at Adana in Turkey. Ten Indians are stuck in remote parts of the affected areas, but they are safe,” he said.
