Padgampora Encounter: Army Jawan Martyred; Terrorist Involved In Targeted Killing Of Kashmiri Pandit Among 2 Gunned Down

Srinagar: An army jawan was martyred and two terrorists were gunned down in an encounter at Padgampora in Awantipora sub-district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday night.

The official spokesperson gave this information on Tuesday.

He said that based on intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Padgampora. When the security force personnel reached the suspected spot, the terrorists hiding there started firing. 

In retaliation, the security forces also opened fire. Two terrorists were killed in the overnight encounter between the two sides. 

One of the slain terrorists has been identified as Aqib Mushtaq Bhat, a resident of Pulwama, who was associated with 'The Resistance Front (TRF)' and was a category 'A' terrorist. The other slain terrorist is yet to be identified.

He said that two jawans were also injured in the encounter, out of which one later died. The martyred jawan could not be immediately identified.

Slain ultra was involved in killing of bank security guard

Additional Director General of Police (Kashmir Range) Vijay Kumar said that the terrorist killed in the encounter was involved in the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit Sanjay Sharma two days back. Sanjay, working as a security guard in a bank in Achan village of Pulwama district, was shot dead by terrorists near his house on Sunday morning. This was the first targeted attack on Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley this year.
