Pakistan Threatens To Withdraw From ICC ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 In India

Islamabad: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has once again threatened to pull out of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 to be held in India in October-November.

PCB chairman Najam Sethi has reportedly told BCCI secretary Jay Shah that his country wants to host the Asia Cup and Pakistan will not send its team for the men's ODI World Cup in India if the tournament is moved out,.

Sethi's predecessor had issued a similar warning

Sethi's predecessor Ramiz Raja had issued a similar warning. He had said Pakistan would boycott the 50-over World Cup in India this year if the Asia Cup issue between the two cricket boards wasn't resolved.

Neutral venue for Asia Cup was discussed at ACC meeting

Recently, there was a meeting of the Asian Cricket Council, i.e. ACC, in which there was a discussion on the neutral venue of the Asia Cup.

A neutral venue for the Asia Cup 2023 will be announced after it is decided by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). ACC on Saturday 4th February has decided that a new venue for Asia Cup 2023 will be finalized in the month of March this year.

However, a well-informed source in the PCB told that during the ACC executive board meeting held in Bahrain on Saturday, Sethi made Pakistan's stand on the Asia Cup very clear to Shah.

Sethi is understood to have told Shah that Pakistan will not give up the hosting rights of either the Asia Cup or the Champions Trophy in 2025.

Sources say the PCB is not happy with the idea that the Asia Cup can be shifted to a neutral venue. If this happens, Pakistan will not travel to India for the ICC World Cup 2023.
