Punjab: Waris Punjab De Head Amritpal Singh's Supporters Surround Police Station In Amritsar, Block Highway

Amritsar: In Punjab, supporters of pro-Khalistan organization 'Waris Punjab De' came out on the streets to protest against the arrest of Toofan Singh, a close aide of Amritpal Singh. 

Thousands of angry people surrounded the police station in Amritsar with guns, swords and sticks. When the police put up barricades to stop them, they broke it and entered inside the police station. Uproar continues on the spot.

Amritpal Singh, who has been embroiled in several controversies, was recently booked on charges of kidnapping and voluntarily causing hurt. 

Jalandhar-Amritsar highway blocked

The supporters of Amritpal Singh blocked the Jalandhar-Amritsar national highway near Dhilwan toll plaza in Punjab’s Kapurthala in protest against the preventive arrest of two of his supporters.

The highway was choked and long queues of vehicles could be seen for several kilometres.

Amritpal's supporters wee picked up

It was Amritpal who had asked his supporters to reach Ajnala at 11 am on Thursday. After this the crowd gathered here. Sensing the seriousness of the situation, the police also became active and started picking up Amritpal's supporters even before they reached. This heated up the atmosphere.

Amritpal has also reached Ajnala police station after getting information about the ruckus. After coming here, he had a meeting with SSP Satinder Singh. 

Police given an hour's time to release Toofan Singh

After this the police have been given one hour's time to release Toofan Singh. During this, he is standing outside the police station.

A case has been registered against a total of 30 people, including Amritpal, his accomplice Toofan Singh, at the Ajnala police station in Amritsar. 

Had abducted and thrashed a youth

These people had severely beaten up a youth after abducting him. The victim had commented against Amritpal on social media. 

In this case, the police had arrested Toofan Singh. This infuriated Amritpal and he announced arrest on Thursday while protesting outside the Ajnala police station in Amritsar.

Amritpal, while showing sharp attitude against Home Minister Amit Shah, had also said that fate would be like that of Indira Gandhi, but only yesterday, he took a U-turn on this and said that Amit Shah wants to get him killed. At the same time, he had announced that today he will reach Ajnala to protest with his supporters.
