Sonia Gandhi Not Retiring From Politics, Such Speculations Are Misleading, Says Alka Lamba

Raipur: The speculations going on since yesterday that former Congress President Sonia Gandhi may retire from politics came to an end today when Congress leader Alka Lamba denied it in the presence of Mrs. Gandhi.

In her address at the ongoing Congress National Convention here, Ms. Lamba, while denying Mrs. Gandhi's retirement, said that she met Mrs. Gandhi after reports to this effect appeared in the media, on which she clearly said that... She is not backing down from politics at all, she will keep working to strengthen the party... At the time of this statement of Ms. Lamba, Mrs. Gandhi was also present. She was smiling during this.

Sonia's statement at plenary session had led to speculations

In fact Mrs. Gandhi had said in her address at the plenary session yesterday that..I had the honor of taking over as the party president for the first time in 1998. In these 25 years, our party has seen times of high achievement as well as times of deep despair.

Sonia had said that our victories in 2004 and 2009 as well as the able leadership of Dr. Manmohan Singh gave me personal satisfaction, but what gives me the greatest pleasure is that I could end my innings with the Bharat Jodo Yatra...

There were reports in a section of the media considering this statement as a sign of her retirement from politics. This had spread disappointment among the common Congressmen.
