Tension In Jharkhand’s Palamau Ahead Of Shivratri, Two Sides Clash, Dozens Injured, Shops Torched, Vehicles Vandalized

Panki (Palamau): There is tension in Panki town of Palamau district in Jharkhand ahead of Shivratri over the installation of Toran Dwar or entry gate. There was clash between the two sides and heavy stone pelting took place from the religious place. Dozens of people have been injured.

Clash erupted between two groups over the installation of 'Toran Dwar' (entry gate) in a market in Palamu's Panki today. Section 144 has been imposed

Situation is now under control with the presence of teams from 3 police stations. SP CK Sinha said action will be taken against the accused.

Cops also injured

Before Shivratri, a dispute had started regarding the installation of Torana Dwar near the mosque. Vehicles have also been vandalised. Many shops were ransacked and some of them were set on fire. Policemen are also reported to have been injured in this stone pelting.

Along with the police administration, local leaders are also present on the spot. At present the situation is tense. This tension was going on since Tuesday. About 100 policemen have been deployed on the spot after the incident.

Stones are scattered on the streets 

Panki market is completely closed. Stones are scattered on the road, the people of one side say that after the entry gate was installed, the other side forcibly threw it. When this was opposed, stone pelting started.

Shops set on fire, internet service stopped 

How horrific the stone pelting was, it can be gauged from the stones lying on the road. There has been heavy stone pelting from both the sides. It is being told that petrol bombs have also been thrown. Shops outside the mosque have been set on fire. Although the petrol bomb has not been confirmed by the police.

Palamu district administration has stopped internet services in Panki. Even before this there have been incidents of violence in Panki. The situation is tense. The administration is trying to resolve the matter by talking to both the parties.
