Uttar Pradesh Meerut News: 5 Workers Die, Many Injured In Blast In Former MLA's Cold Storage

Meerut: In the Daurala area of Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh, the roof of the building collapsed due to explosion in the cold storage belonging to former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Chandraveer Singh on Friday. Bodies of five laborers have been removed so far. While 12 people have been pulled out of the debris.

All the injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals as well as to the emergency of the medical college, where the condition of many remains critical.

Daurala's Deputy Superintendent of Police Abhishek said that five people have been reported dead. So far 12 people have been evacuated. 

NDRF reach on spot

Simultaneously, rescue operation is being carried out, the work of removing debris from JCB machine is going on. Apart from the dog squad, NDRF has also been called on the spot.

Police sources said that former MLA Chandraveer Singh has a Janshakti cold storage in Daurala. Linter was being put in the cold storage on Friday afternoon and more than 35 laborers were working there. 

Ammonia boiler exploded

Suddenly the ammonia boiler exploded with an explosion, blowing off the roof of the building under construction and all the workers were buried under the debris.

Police and rescue teams immediately reached the spot and launched operations to rescue the trapped labourers. This incident has created a stir in the area and agitated people started creating ruckus alleging negligence.

BSP MLA, son detained

The owner of the cold storage, Chandraveer and his son have been detained by the police for questioning. Police is probing the cause of the blast and an FIR has been registered against the owner under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
