Women's T20 World Cup 2023: India Will Have To Win Last League Match Against Ireland To Stay In Race

England beat India by 11 runs in Group-2 of the Women's T20 World Cup. This is England's sixth win over India in tournament history. The Indian team has not been able to register a single win over England in the T20 World Cup. India will have to beat Ireland in the next match to stay in the semi-final race.

England scored 151 runs losing seven wickets at St. George's Park. In response, the Indian team could only manage 140 runs for five wickets in 20 overs. Earlier, the Indian girls had started their World Cup campaign on a high note with wins against Pakistan and West Indies.

3 top batters of India dismissed cheaply

The reason for India's defeat proved to be the cheap dismissals of Shefali Verma (8), Jemimah Rodrigues (13) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (4), the hero of the victory against Pakistan.

England's Sarah Glenn took the wicket of Rodrigues after Snriti Mandhana and took India far away from victory. At the same time, Lauren Bell and Sophie Ecclestone, who were extremely stingy in giving runs, took one wicket each. On the other hand, Deepti Sharma's run out in the 19th over of the Indian innings dashed the hopes of the Indian team to get close to the target.

Mandhana hit seven fours and a six

However, Mandhana got off to a brisk start and hit seven fours and a six in her half-century innings, playing 41 balls. At the same time, Richa hit four fours and two sixes in an unbeaten inning of just 34 balls.

Earlier, England's start to bat was very dull when its three top batters returned to the pavilion after adding only 29 runs. But later Nat Seaver-Brunt (50) stitched a strong partnership with first captain Heather Knight (28) and later Amy Jones (40) to take the team's score past 150.

Renuka Singh took 5 wickets

India's Renuka Singh conceded just 15 runs to guide five English girls to the pavilion. But due to weak bowling at the other end, the English girls were able to settle at the crease. To make up for the lack of a fifth bowler, Harmanpreeti resorted to her part-time bowlers but failed to retain the early lead against England.

Natalie Seaver adjudged player of the match

Natalie Seaver Brunt scored the highest 50 runs for England in the first innings. She also took a catch and a run out in the second innings. She was named player of the match for this performance.

Amy Jones scored 40 and captain Heather Knight scored 28 to take the team past 150. Renuka Singh took the maximum 5 wickets for India.

Must win against Ireland

By defeating India, England has strengthened its position in the points table of Group-2. The team is in first place with 6 points with 3 wins in 3 matches. India are in second place with 4 points after 2 wins and 1 loss.

Team India's last league match will be against Ireland on 20 February. If Team India wins this, then there will be hopes of reaching the semi-finals. England will play their last match in the group stage against Pakistan on 21 February.
