Border-Gavaskar Trophy: Rohit Sharma Completes 17,000 Runs In International Cricket

Ahmedabad: Team India captain Rohit Sharma completed 17,000 runs in international cricket on Saturday during the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia here.

Sixth Indian batsman to score 17000 runs

Rohit needed 21 runs to reach this feat before the start of the match. He made this record by hitting a four off Mitchell Starc. He is the sixth Indian batsman to do so. Rohit, however, could not convert this start into a big innings and was dismissed after scoring 35 runs off 58 balls.

He now joins a list of Indian batters like legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, head coach Rahul Dravid, ex-captains Sourav Ganguly and Mahendra Singh Dhoni to get above 17,000 runs in international cricket.

Only cricketer in world to score 3 double centuries in ODIs

Rohit, who made his debut in the year 2007, has scored 17014 runs in his career playing 438 international matches. Rohit has scored 47 hundreds and 92 fifties in his illustrious career, while his highest score is 264 against Sri Lanka in 2011. He is also the only cricketer in the world to have scored three double hundreds in ODIs.

India's befitting reply to Australia

Meanwhile, India has given a befitting reply to Australia in the fourth Test. The team has scored 289 runs for three wickets in response to Australia's 480 runs in the first innings. India is still behind by 191 runs. After the end of Saturday's game on the third day of the match, Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 59 and Ravindra Jadeja on 16 runs.

Shubman Gill hits brilliant ton

India resumed innings from 36/0 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Shubman Gill (128 runs) scored a century. He has scored his 5th international century this year.
Gill made half-century partnerships with captain Rohit Sharma (35 runs), Pujara (42 runs) and Kohli. After Gill's dismissal, Kohli took command and scored a half-century. Kohli's half century has come after 14 months and 15 innings.
Earlier, Kohli had scored Fifty against South Africa on 11 January 2022.
