Rajasthan: BJP Determined To Put Ashok Gehlot In Dock Over Issue Of Veeranganas; Kirodilal Meena, Satish Poonia Took Part In Protest; Political Atmosphere Surcharged

Jaipur: Political rhetoric continues on the issue of forceful removal of the three Veeraganas of Pulwama martyrs and alleged police misconduct with BJP MP Kirodi Lal Meena in Rajasthan. In the election year, the matter has already snowballed into a major issue and BJP is determined to put state government in dock. Party held a massive protest demonstration on Saturday and hundreds of leaders and workers courted arrest. The protest was led by BJP state president Satish Poonia and MP Kirodilal Meena.

Pilot accused his own govt of not showing sensitivity

But it is not just the Opposition that has targeted the government. Even more embarrassing for the state government is the way party senior leader and former Deputy CM Sachin Pilot has accused his own government of not dealing with the issue sensitively and not showing respect towards the widows of the martyrs who made supreme sacrifice for the nation.

Gehlot met Veeraganas but controversy didn't end

Realising that the issue could dent his and his party's image and affect election prospects CM Ashok Gehlot met the Veeraganas from Shekhawati and Marwar region at CM House on Saturday. But these Veeranganas are not the ones who had been sitting on dharna and had been removed by the police. Gehlot interacted with the Veeraganas and their children. But this did not help to end the controversy and BJP held a massive protest.

Poonia led protest against Cong govt

Hundreds of BJP workers and leaders, including state party president Satish Poonia, on Saturday, held a massive demonstration-cum-rally here against the Congress government’s alleged misconduct and police highhandedness in crushing the agitation of Pulwama martyrs’ widow.

Kirodilal Meena, party workers courted arrest

During the protest on the Sahakar Bhawan road, over hundred protesters including  Rajya Sabha MP Dr Kirodilal Meena, who was admitted to the SMS Hospital for injuries he received yesterday, courted arrest after a failed bid to cross barricades and near civil lines over bridge.

In the melee, BJP president Poonia received a minor injury in his leg and was provided a separate vehicle during his court arrest, a party spokesman said. All of them were released near Vidhyadhar Nagar area in the city later in the day.

Factionalism seen in state BJP

During the protest, factionalism once again came to the fore in the BJP. Supporters of MP Kirodilal raised slogans of 'Satish Poonia hai-hai'. On the other hand, Poonia's supporters raised slogans of 'Poonia Zindabad'. Kirodilal supporters are unhappy as they say the BJP organization did not support them strongly.

Kirodilal Meena accuses Gehlot of doing politics

MP Kirodilal Meena targeted Gehlot and said he was doing politics on the issue. Kirodilal tweeted – Gehlot, who insulted the Veeraganas, is meeting the Veeraganas today. Didn't you seen the hungry and thirsty Veeraganas pleading to meet you at your door for 10 days? Don't you feel any shame while doing politics with the Veeraganas?

Matters related to martyrs should not be politicised: Gehlot

However, Gehlot said that matters related to martyrs should not be politicised. There is no provision in the rules to give job to any other family member other than the Veeragana or children. This demand is not correct. Due to this, the Veeraganas may have to face undue family and social pressure in future.

Solace for Gehlot

Meanwhile, there is solace for Gehlot. The Veeranganas who met the CM have supported his stand not to give job to any other relative except martyr's own children. The Veeranganas pleaded not to give jobs to the martyr's other relatives other than the wife and children.

Martyr Havaldar Ramesh Kumar Dagar's wife Kusum said – The demand for giving job to brother-in-law is not only wrong but ridiculous. This demand of the protesting Veeranganas is illegitimate. Other Veeranganas also have to bear the consequences of demanding jobs for family members other than the martyr's children. The image of all the Veeranganas is affected by the sit-in-demonstrations regarding unfair demands.
