Delhi Budget 2023 Not Likely To Be Presented Today After Home Ministry Raises Concerns

New Delhi: The budget of the Delhi government is not likely to be presented in the assembly on Tuesday.

Delhi government sources have claimed that the budget has been put on hold by the Home Ministry.

Sources said that as per the regular procedure, the budget was sent for the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs on March 10. The Home Ministry had raised some concerns over Delhi's budget and did not approve it.

'Budget has not been stopped but some concerns have been raised'

The Home Ministry said that the budget has not been stopped but some concerns have definitely been raised in the budget.

Sources claimed that the Home Ministry's concerns have been addressed and the file was handed back to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi after the Chief Minister's nod on Monday night.

Sources said that if the nod is received by Tuesday morning, the budget can be presented as per schedule.

We have responded to the concerns of Home Ministry: Kailash Gehlot

Delhi Finance Minister Kailash Gehlot tweeted, "For the first time in the history of India, the Home Ministry has prevented the Delhi government from presenting its annual budget tomorrow. The budget was sent much earlier on March 10 for the Home Ministry's approval. The file containing the concerns of the Ministry of Home Affairs was placed with me today at 6 pm."

'Concerns raised are irrelevant'

Gehlot said that we have responded to the concerns of the Ministry of Home Affairs and after the approval of the Chief Minister, have handed over the file back to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi at 9 pm tonight.

Gehlot said that the concerns raised by the Ministry of Home Affairs are irrelevant and seem to have been done only to spoil the next year's budget of the Delhi government.
