Maharashtra: Uddhav Loyalist Subhash Desai Downplays Son Bhushan Joining Shinde Camp

Mumbai: Bhushan Desai, son of veteran Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Subhash Desai, has joined Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde-led faction of the party.

Seeking to downplay his son's entry into Shinde camp, Desai senior said Bhushan had, anyway, no role in politics or the Shiv Sena (UBT).

Jolt to the Thackeray camp: Bhushan Desai was inducted into the Shiv Sena fold in the presence of Chief Minister Shinde. The development is being seen in political circles as a blow to the Thackeray camp because of the Subhash Desai's closeness to the Thackerays.

My loyalty towards the party will not change, says Subhash Desai: 80-year-old Subhash Desai, a key aide of former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, said he was distressed with his son joining the ruling outfi but his own loyalty towards the party and the Thackeray family would not be affected in any way.

Subhash Desai is one of the few active leaders to have worked with Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. He was also instrumental in starting the Shiv Sena mouthpiece Saamana along with Uddhav Thackeray.

Bhushan had himself expressed his desire to join Shiv Sena, says Shinde: Welcoming him into the party fold, Shinde said that Bhushan had himself expressed his desire to join the Shiv Sena. “Many have joined us after we started the party. Forty MLAs and 13 MPs are with us now. People like Gajanan Kirtikar, who started their career with Balasaheb Thackeray, have also joined us.”

Bhushan said, “Balasaheb is my deity and Shinde is taking forward his thoughts. I staunchly believe in him. I have seen Shinde’s work and speedy decision making.”
