Rahul Gandhi Issued Notice To Vacate Official Bungalow; 18 Opposition Parties Unite Against Modi Govt

New Delhi: Leaders of 18 opposition parties met at the residence of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge in view of the notice sent to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to vacate the bungalow allotted to him as an MP after his membership in the Lok Sabha ended. Leaders of all parties expressed solidarity to save democracy.

'Parties are unanimous against atmosphere of fear' 

After the meeting, Congress leaders Pramod Tiwari and Gaurav Gogoi told reporters that leaders of all parties discussed about saving democracy in the country and the country's economic situation. They said that all parties are unanimous against the atmosphere of fear and intimidation that is being created in the society.

The leaders of the parties which participated in the meeting included DMK, Nationalist Congress Party, Janata Dal U, Marxist Communist Party, Communist Party of India, Trinamool Congress, RSP Rashtriya Janata Dal, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, National Conference, Samajwadi Party, MDMK apart from Congress. 18 parties including IUML participated.

On the issue of notice sent to Rahul Gandhi to vacate the bungalow, Tiwari said that the notice has not been received yet. Meanwhile, the Congress has decided to hold press conferences against the government  in all the major cities of the country.

Parties agreed to avoid emotive issues like Savarkar

Sources revealed that the opposition parties agreed on several issues. It was decided that they would avoid emotive issues like Savarkar and also refrain from criticizing each other. After disqualification from Lok Sabha membership, Rahul Gandhi had said that my name is not Savarkar, it is Gandhi and Gandhi won't apologize.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday warned that demeaning Savarkar would create cracks in the opposition alliance. Uddhav Thackeray said that he considers Hindutva ideologue V D Savarkar as his idol and asked Rahul to refrain from insulting him.

"Savarkar suffered unimaginable torture in the Andaman cellular jail for 14 years. We can only read the sufferings. It is a form of sacrifice. We will not tolerate the insult of Savarkar," Uddhav Thackeray had said.
