Delhi Excise Policy Case: No Relief For Manish Sisodia, Judicial Custody Extended Till April 17

NEW DELHI: Delhi's former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia did not get relief as the Rouse Avenue Court in New Delhi extended his judicial remand till April 17. Sisodia is in jail in a CBI case related to alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped excise policy.

A Delhi court on Monday declined bail to Sisodia in the excise policy case being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation. Special Judge MK Nagpal dismissed Sisodia's bail. The judge observed Sisodia's release could adversely affect the ongoing investigation and will also seriously hamper the progress.

The court said Sisodia had played the most important and vital role in the criminal conspiracy and he had been deeply involved in formulation as well as implementation' of the excise policy to ensure achievement of objectives of the said conspiracy.

On March 9, the ED had arrested  Sisodia at the Tihar jail, where he was lodged in connection with a separate case being probed by the CBI.

The CBI arrested Sisodia on February 26 in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy for 2021-22.

The Delhi liquor policy case has been a high-profile case that has implicated several individuals, including government officials and businessmen. The ED and CBI investigations have brought to light allegations of corruption and malfeasance in the issuance of liquor licences in Delhi.
