Karnal Building Collapse: 4 Labourers Die, Many Trapped As Three-storey Building Of Rice Mill Collapses In Haryana


KARNAL (HARYANA): A three-storey building of Shiv Shakti Rice Mill collapsed at 3:30 am in Karnal, Haryana. Four labourers died after they were buried under its debris, while 20 to 25 labourers were buried under the debris. Eyewitnesses said that 120 labourers saved their lives by jumping from the windows, while many others were rescued by teams of rescuers. 

According to preliminary information, the laborers who died are residents of Araria, Begusarai, Khagaria and Samastipur in Bihar.


About 200 labourers used to live in this building of Shiv Shakti Rice Mill in Tarawadi. Some of them had gone to work at night. The rest were sleeping in the building. At present, the rescue operation is being conducted on the spot.


Teams of NDRF, SDRF engaged in rescue


Karnal SP Shashank Kumar Sawan said that the teams of NDRF and SDRF have been engaged in rescue for 5 hours. It will take a whole day to clear the debris. The owner has been detained for questioning. Repair work was going on on the first floor of the 3-storey building.


He told that the list has been taken from the labor contractor. On the basis of this, the missing people are being searched. The names of those killed in the mishap are Sanjay Kumar, Pankaj Kumar, Awadhesh and Chandan.


BDC forms probe team


Karnal's DC Anish Yadav told that rice mill laborers used to live in the building. Initial investigation revealed that the structure of the building was unsafe. Yadav said an inquiry committee under the leadership of SDM has been formed. They will submit their report as to what was the condition of the structure of the building. Action will be taken after the report.
