Madhya Pradesh Election 2023: Can Congress Win Many Seats In Nimar Riding On Popularity of Makhan Singh Solanki

Bhopal: Veteran Congress leaders Digvijaya Singh and Kamal Nath are enthused as former BJP MP from Khargone-Barwani Makhan Singh Solanki joined the Congress. He has a good hold over the voters of Nimar.

He is counted among the tall leaders especially in Maheshwar, Kasrawad, Khargone, Bhagwanpura, Sendhwa, Rajpur, Pansemal, Barwani constituencies.

Solanki was elected as MP from Khargone Lok Sabha constituency in 2009. He has been Khargone Barwani MP from BJP in 2009-2014, Barwani District Panchayat President once and Barwani Janpad Panchayat President three times.

Recently, he left the BJP and joined the Congress, in which former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh played a major role.

Solanki was denied ticket in 2014, 19

Makhan Singh Solanki was upset due to being denied a ticket in 2014, and in 2019 too, BJP ignored him again and gave ticket to Gajendra Patel. Since then, he has been angry with the BJP.

This time too, seeing no scope for a ticket, he joined the Congress. 65-year-old Makhan Singh Solanki is popularly known as Bauji among the tribals in Nimar area.

At present, Congress is in possession of 6 out of 8 assembly seats in this parliamentary constituency. The Congress hopes that this time with the arrival of Makhan Singh Solanki, the BJP will be swept away.

Solanki took membership of the Congress party on 31 March in the presence of Digvijaya Singh at a program in Barwani district.

Solanki was humiliated by BJP: Digvijaya

Addressing the programme Digvijaya Singh said, "Solanki joined the Congress on Friday (March 31) and expressed his anguish from the stage about how he was treated and humiliated. What is his fault? He won every election from Sarpanch to MP but did not get a ticket in 2014. He was humiliated."

Digvijaya said further, "BJP could not give respect to Dalit and tribal people of the country, which has been written in the Constitution. Tribals are the oldest natives of this country, however, the BJP says that they are not tribals but forest dwellers. Those who live in the forest and later move to the city, will his rights be lost? Congress made tribal people a sarpanch and raised them to higher posts by giving reservation, today their rights are being cut."

BJP engaged in increasing party's penetration

In the 2018 assembly elections in the Khargone-Barwani parliamentary constituency, BJP won only one out of eight seats but in the next year's Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won the Lok Sabha elections with a lead in the assemblies.

Along with this, the BJP and its affiliated organizations have been engaged since then in increasing the party's penetration in the state assemblies under Mission-23. The party is confident it will perform brilliantly in the upcoming assembly elections.

The party is relying on the development works done by BJP's Shivraj government, welfare schemes for the people, PESA Act, Ladli Bahna Yojana, among others. And the BJP's flag will fly in all the assemblies.
