Parkash Singh Badal Was A Ray Of Hope In Political Darkness; Journey To CM Was Not Easy


Five-time Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal passed away on Tuesday night. He was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali after he complained of breathing problems. Where he breathed his last at around 8 pm on Tuesday night. 


Two days state mourning has been declared on April 26 and 27 on the death of former CM Parkash Singh Badal. During this, the national flag will remain half-tilted. The Punjab government has declared a government holiday in the state on Thursday. The state's Bhagwant Mann government has declared a public holiday as a mark of respect to Badal.


PM Modi nwas among those who condoled Badal's demise. In a tweet thread the Prime Minister said:  “Extremely saddened by the passing away of Shri Parkash Singh Badal Ji. He was a colossal figure of Indian politics, and a remarkable statesman who contributed greatly to our nation. He worked tirelessly for the progress of Punjab and anchored the state through critical times. Shri Badal’s passing away is a personal loss for me. I have interacted closely with him for many decades and learnt so much from him. I recall our numerous conversations, in which his wisdom was always clearly seen. Condolences to his family and countless admirers."


Opponents were also convinced of his political acumen


Parkash Singh Badal was the leader of the Akali Dal. However, he gained power in alliance with the BJP, which practices Hindutva politics. There are never permanent enemies or friends in politics. Badal's opponents also used to bow before his political understanding.This understanding of Badal was also seen twice during his last tenure as the CM of Punjab. 


Actually the leaders of Congress and Aam Aadmi Party had come to protest in front of his residence. In such a situation, both the times, CM Badal got tents set up there for the protestors. Not only this, he himself also came to welcome the protestors at the gate. He also talked to the protestors.

 
Badal was the youngest and oldest CM


The mortal remains of former CM Parkash Singh Badal were kept at the Shiromani Akali Dal headquarters in Sector 28, Chandigarh, for the last darshan. The last rites will be performed at Badal village on Thursday, April 27 at around 1 pm. 


Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying tributes to the BJP’s erstwhile ally and Shiromani Akali Dal patriarch Parkash Singh Badal at the SAD headquarters in Sector 28, Chandigarh, on Wednesday afternoon.


Parkash Singh Badal was one of the senior most leaders of the country in terms of age. He was also the President of Shiromani Akali Dal from 1996 to 2008. 


In the year 1970, at the age of 43, Parkash Singh Badal became the CM of Punjab, then he was the youngest leader of the country to sit on the CM's chair, while in the year 2017, when his fifth term as Chief Minister was completed, Badal was 90 years old. Due to which he became the oldest CM of any state in the country. Currently, this record is registered in his name only.


Agriculture minister in Charan Singh's government

Parkash Singh Badal was the agriculture minister in the central government headed by Chaudhary Charan Singh from 1979 to 1980, but after that he never again turned to the politics of the Center. He kept his entire focus on the politics of Punjab.


Began as Sarpanch like father


Parkash Singh Badal started politics in the year 1947. Like father Raghuraj Singh, Prakash Singh also became Sarpanch of Badal village. After this, he achieved the chair of the Chief Minister of Punjab five times while holding many posts. Although he was elected as an MLA on a Congress ticket, he chose the Akali Dal.
