Punjab Gas Leak: Children Among Nine Die In Ludhiana

LUDHIANA  (PUNJAB): At least nine people died, including children, due to gas leak in Ludhiana, Punjab on Sunday. The accident took place at 7:15 am in a building located in Gyaraspura. 

Ludhiana's SDM Swati said that many people fainted after the gas leak. Fire Brigade, Police and NDRF teams are present on the spot. The entire area has been sealed. At least 11 people have been hospitalized

Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Ludhiana South Rajinderpal Kaur Chhina said that there was a milk booth in the building and whoever went here in the morning to get milk fell unconscious. After this the incident came to light. People are fainting within 300 meters of the building where the gas leak has taken place. 

Kaur described the incident as unfortunate. She said it is yet to be ascertained what led to the tragedy.  Which gas leaked and what is the reason for it, this information has not come yet. 

Area sealed

Police have sealed the area while a fire brigade and an ambulance have been deployed there. A team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has also reached the site.

 

Ludhiana Police Commissioner Mandeep Singh Sidhu confirmed that nine people have so far died in the incident.

Chief Minister Mann expresses grief

On the other hand, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann expressed deep sorrow after getting the information about this accident. He has tweeted. Along with this, CM Mann said that the incident of gas leak in the factory in Gyaraspura area of Ludhiana is sad. NDRF teams along with police, administration are deployed on the spot, relief and rescue work is going on fast. All possible help is being given to the victims, Mann said.

According to the eyewitnesses, a situation of stampede was created due to a sudden gas leak. They say that the gas may have leaked from a nearby factory. As soon as people came to know about this. They started running here and there to save their lives. 

A person named Anjal Kumar told that his uncle has a clinic here. Being close to the factory, his entire family fainted. The bodies of two people are still lying in the house. The body of his family members has turned completely blue.
