Rajasthan: Subsidy Will Be Given On Gas Cylinders; Will Now Be Available For Rs 500 To BPL And Ujjwala Scheme Beneficiaries

In Rajasthan, now the families covered under the BPL and Ujjwala schemes of the state will get cooking gas LPG cylinders for Rs 500. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has approved the financial proposal of Rs. 750 crore under the ‘Mukhyamantri Gas Cylinder’ scheme in this regard.

More than 73 lakh families in the state will benefit from this decision of CM Gehlot. The beneficiaries eligible in this scheme will get one cylinder per month at a concessionary rate from April 1, 2023.

The BPL gas connection holders will get a subsidy of Rs. 610 per gas cylinder. Ujjwala connection holders will get Rs 410 as subsidy in their bank accounts as the central government already gives Rs 200 cheaper cylinders to these connection holders.

BENEFICIARIES WHO REGISTER AFTER APRIL 1 WILL ALSO GET BENEFIT OF SCHEME

The subsidy amount will be transferred to the accounts of the beneficiary linked with Jan Aadhaar when he himself purchases the cylinder. Even the beneficiaries who register after April 1, 2023, will also get the benefit of this scheme.

It is to be mentioned that CM Gehlot announced in the 2023-24 budget to provide a cylinder for Rs 500 to the families in BPL and Ujjwala schemes. This approval has been given for the implementation of the said announcement. A large number of people in the state will get relief from the inflation and their economic situation will improve with this decision of CM Gehlot.

OVER 73 LAKH FAMILIES TO BENEFIT

The three gas companies (IOCL, BPCL, HPCL) have more than 1 crore 75 lakh 48 thousand connections in the state. Of these, there are more than 69 lakh 20 thousand connections of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, while there are 3 lakh 80 thousand BPL families who have cooking gas connections. Thus there are total of over 73 lakh beneficiaries in the state who will benefit from the scheme.

SUBSIDY AMOUNT WILL BE CREDITED DIRECTLY INTO ACCOUNTS OF BENEFICIARIES

BPL and Ujjwala connection holders will have to pay the full amount (current rate Rs 1106.50) to the agent or supplier who delivers LPG cylinders at home. When the cylinder delivery is done, subsidy amount will be credited directly into the accounts of the beneficiaries.

To avail cash subsidy under this scheme, the connection holders will have to link their bank account with Jan Aadhaar card. If the bank account is not linked to the Jan Aadhaar card then the subsidy will not come. The state government is providing cylinders for Rs. 500 only to the original residents of the state.

However, this process may take some time to start. The State Government is yet to receive the list (with name and connection number) of BPL and Ujjwala connection holders from the Union Ministry of Petroleum. In such a situation, the state government is now preparing to get this data prepared through gas agencies.
