Bengaluru: Before the assembly elections in Karnataka, the BJP has suffered a major setback. Former CM Jagadish Shettar has joined Congress. Annoyed at not getting a ticket from the BJP, he had resigned from the assembly last Sunday itself. Shettar, who belongs to the Lingayat community, can now prove to be fatal for the BJP.


While resigning from BJP, Shettar had said that he has resigned from the party with a heavy heart. BJP tried to pacify Shettar but Shettar did not agree and eventually resigned from the party.

Was angry for not getting ticket

Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar said that no demand has been made to Jagadish Shettar and no promise has been made to him by the Congress party. To join the Congress, they have to accept the principles of the party and also accept the party leadership. We want this country to remain united and only Congress can do that.
 

Did not listen to the central leadership


On the other hand, on behalf of BJP, along with CM Basavaraj Bommai, Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi and Dharmendra Pradhan tried hard to persuade Ruthe Shettar. But they failed. CM Bommai said that Shettar was offered a big position in Delhi on behalf of BJP National President JP Nadda and Home Minister Amit Shah. Shettar that the ticket would be given to the candidate of his choice. But he refused.

BJP can suffer loss of 25 seats


Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP leader Jagadish Shettar had given a new ultimatum to the party for not getting ticket in the assembly elections. The former CM had openly come forward seeking ticket for the Hubli-Dharwad assembly seat. Shettar who was asked by the party high command to withdraw his candidature for the assembly elections from Hubli-Dharwad but again refused. He said that if his ticket is denied, the party will lose at least 20 to 25 seats in the state. The BJP had already been given an ultimatum by the former Chief Minister to announce his candidature from the Hubli-Dharwad Central constituency for the Karnataka Assembly elections.
