AAP Slams Centre For Issuing Ordinance To Reverse Supreme Court Order On Control Of Services In Delhi

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Friday once again took control of the services department of the the Delhi government by issuing an ordinance. This comes days after the Supreme Court had given the control of services to the Delhi government. AAP leaders have hit out at the Centre and described the move as undemocratic.

Earlier this month, in a unanimous verdict, the Supreme Court ruled that the Delhi government has legislative and executive powers over services except for public order, police and land. After gaining control of services, Arvind Kejriwal said he would establish a new model of governance in Delhi.

Transfer and posting of officials have been a key area of friction between the Centre and the Delhi government.

After the Supreme Court order, the AAP government removed several officers in various departments. However, the ordinance today once again gives the Centre the power over transfer and posting of key officials.

The Union government has established the National Capital Service Authority through an ordinance. The ordinance makes L-G Governor the final arbiter in the matter. This comes amid increasing tensions between the AAP government and L-G Governor.

PM doesn't believe in SC and Constitution: AAP

AAP leader Sanjay Singh hit out at the Centre for the ordinance. He said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has again shown that he is a dictator and doesn’t believe in democracy. He doesn't believe in Supreme Court and the Constitution. This ordinance is against the top court’s constitutional bench decision."

Sanjay Singh said people would certainly stand against your dictatorship and the SC would surely take cognisance of this matter.

AAP leader and Delhi Education Minister Atishi Marlena said the central government's ordinance is in 'contempt of the order' of the constitution bench of the Supreme Court.
