PTI Leaders Call For Nationwide Protests After Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan Arrested



Islamabad: Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan was arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday.


Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party (PTI) chairman Imran was arrested in connection with several FIRs lodged in the matter.


PTI leaders have called for nationwide protests after Imran's arrest. PTI vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has vowed to fight a political and legal war for the “safe recovery” and “release” of the party chief.


PTI leader Hammad Azhar said that Imran’s arrest was “not acceptable” and called on the nation to take to the streets against Imran’s arrest.


Khan was detained by rangers personnel of the Islamabad HC in the Al-Qadir Trust case. Former PM had had gone to seek bail in several FIRs lodged against him.


According to 'Geo News', the former Prime Minister was arrested by the Rangers and taken away in a black Vigo vehicle.


Confirming his arrest, Islamabad's Inspector General of Police Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan said that Khan has been arrested in the Al-Qadir Trust case. He said the situation is under control.


According to Geo News, when Imran Khan was taken into custody, he was going for biometric at Islamabad HC. NAB officials who had an arrest warrant arrested him.


HC Chief Justice summoned Islamabad IG and the Interior Secretary


Following Khan's arrest, HC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq took cognizance of the matter and summoned the Islamabad IG and the Interior Secretary within '15 minutes'.


He also directed the Additional Attorney General to appear before the court in 15 minutes and directed him to immediately find out who was behind the arrest.


The Chief Justice said, “If the investigation has to be done, then action will be taken against the Prime Minister and the ministers also.”
