Karnataka Election 2023: Congress Tells EC PM Modi Crossed Lakshman Rekha; Sonia Gandhi Compares BJP Rule To Dark Ages

Bengaluru: The Congress has demanded the Election Commission to take action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his 'Congress shielded terrorism for vote bank' remark and said he has crossed the 'lakshman rekha'.

Taking strong objections to Modi's allegation at a rally in Ballary on Friday, the Congress accused him of making spiteful and fake allegations to vitiate the atmosphere of poll-bound Karnataka.

Top BJP leaders are polarizing atmosphere

The Congress has also alleged that top BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, have been polarizing the atmosphere in Karnataka.

Congress general secretaries Randeep Surjewala and K C Venugopal said in a memorandum sent to the Election Commission that Modi has not only crossed the 'lakshman rekha' but blatantly ignored every norm and decorum set by his predecessors. This cannot go unchecked, unanswered and unpunished,' the memorandum said.

Karnataka has a special place in history of Cong: Sonia

On the other hand a day earlier in Hubli, former Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday likened the present tenure of the BJP government to the dark ages and said it was the duty of the people to raise their voice against such rule.

Addressing a public meeting in the Hubballi-Dharwad Central constituency, Mrs. Gandhi said that Karnataka has a special place in the history of the Congress. It is a matter of pride that Shri Mallikarjun Kharge is the President of the Congress Party today. Mrs. Indira Gandhi fought against the anti-people policies of the Centre. Then the people of Chikkamagaluru stood by us.

"Twenty-five years ago, when I contested the Lok Sabha elections for the first time, the people of Bellary supported me. It is our duty to raise our voice against the government in these dark times," he said.  She said that Karnataka and the country cannot develop without liberating the country from the hateful politics of the BJP.

Lakhs of people walked 4,000 kilometers with Rahul

Sonia said, "That is why lakhs of people walked 4,000 kilometers with Rahul Gandhi. BJP is so scared of Bharat Jodo Yatra and that is why it is making all kinds of wrong strategies. Today people in power are trying to protect the common people. earning money instead."

Sonia said that Bharat Jodo Yatra was organized to fight against those who spread hatred in the society. "BJP leaders are so arrogant that they are not answering any question. Not answering any letter. They are controlling constitutional institutions and misusing them," he said.
