PM Modi, Australia PM Anthony Albanese Unveil Foundation Stone For Little India' Gateway; Consulate of India To Be Opened In Brisbane (See In Pics)

Sydney: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a visit to Australia, announced here that India will open a new Consulate in the city of Brisbane. PM Modi said this would fulfill a long-standing demand of the Indian community living in Brisbane.

Modi made this special announcement to our Indian community living in Brisbane while addressing the Indian diaspora at the Sydney Olympic Park here.

The Prime Minister said, “I announce that your long-standing demand in Brisbane will now be fulfilled very soon… A new Consulate of India will be opened in Brisbane.” 

The Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese and former Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Ministers and representatives of the Central and Provincial Governments were present in the meeting.

The Kudos Arena of the Sydney Olympic Park was packed with over 20,000 NRIs.

Prime Minister, along with Albanese, addressed and interacted with a large gathering of Indian community members at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.

The Indian diaspora, consisting of students, researchers, professionals and business persons, participated in the event with great enthusiasm. A number of Ministers, Members of Parliament and other dignitaries from Australia also participated in the event.

Both Prime Ministers jointly unveiled the foundation stone for a 'Little India' Gateway to be built in Harris Park in Parramatta, Western Sydney, which is home to a large Indian community.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi highlighted "Mutual Trust and Mutual Respect" as the foundation of the close historical ties between India and Australia, and underscored the numerous elements that bind the two countries. He praised the contribution and success of the Indian community in Australia, calling them cultural and brand ambassadors of India.

The Prime Minister outlined India's growing achievements on a global scale, and noted that the world was increasingly interested in India's success stories. He highlighted the deepening engagement between India and Australia.
