The Asia Cup 2023 stalemate has finally been resolved as the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is likely to approve the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) hybrid model with Sri Lanka hosting all the games of India.
Pakistan will host matches against Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan in the first phase of the tournament.
Second phase will see Asia Cup move to Sri Lanka
The second phase will see the Asia Cup move to Sri Lanka, with all the teams playing against India. PCB wanted the second phase to be played in UAE, but received opposition from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka citing the heat.
Sri Lanka will host the final even if India fail to qualify or Pakistan play the final. The Asia Cup is expected to be held from September 1-17.
Way for Pakistan to play World Cup in India will also be cleared
ACC can make an official announcement regarding the Asia Cup on Tuesday i.e. June 13. After this, the way for Pakistan to play the World Cup in India will also be cleared. Actually, India had refused to tour Pakistan for the Asia Cup, due to which the suspense remained on the organization of this tournament.
After the official approval of the 'hybrid model', the way will also be cleared for the Pakistan cricket team to come for the ODI World Cup to be held in India in October-November. With this, Pakistan should not have any problem in playing matches in Ahmedabad now.
Under the hybrid model, a total of four out of 13 matches will be played in Pakistan, while two India-Pakistan matches and the remaining matches will be played on Sri Lankan soil.
