Maharashtra: Is BJP Looking For Same Possibilities In Ajit Pawar As It Did In Eknath Shinde

Will Ajit Pawar be friends with BJP in the coming times? This question kept floating in the political corridors of Delhi. The BJP is also keen to welcome such leaders into its alliance in Maharashtra who can leave the NCP, Congress and Uddhav Thackeray and join its fold.

Ajit Pawar is said to be very angry with the appointment of Supriya Sule and Praful Patel as working president of NCP. Sources say that the BJP is keeping a close watch on this whole development. Efforts are being made that Ajit Pawar leave the support of his uncle Sharad Pawar and come out of Maha Vikas Aghadi.

Some big BJP leaders in contact with Ajit

The BJP sees the same potential in Ajit Pawar as it saw in Eknath Shinde in the case of the Shiv Sena. By snatching the Shiv Sena from the Thackeray family in one stroke, the BJP created a stir in the politics of Maharashtra. Will Ajit Pawar be able to play the same game within NCP that Eknath Shinde played in Shiv Sena is a big question. Reliable sources of BJP say that some big leaders of the party are in constant touch with Ajit Pawar.

Sharad Pawar has given a clear message

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has good relations with Ajit. Significantly, by not making Ajit the working president of NCP, Sharad Pawar has given a clear message that he intends to rein in the rebellious ways of his nephew.

Resignation was part of strategy

Recently, when Sharad Pawar suddenly announced his resignation from the post of NCP supremo, Ajit Pawar started considering himself as the next chief of the party. He also publicly expressed that Sharad Pawar has resigned and now the party will decide the way forward with the new leadership.

The Maratha satrap Pawar played the game of resignation as part of a strategy to isolate his nephew in the party and when the party rallied behind him, Sharad Pawar took back his resignation.

From that very day, speculations started about Ajit Pawar being sidelined. In fact, the events turned so fast that even the MLAs of NCP whom Ajit considered his own were seen urging Sharad Pawar to take back his resignation. It was a big blow for Ajit.

Ajit does not have same hold over NCP MLAs

NCP experts say that Sharad Pawar had lost faith in Ajit only when he joined hands with BJP and took oath as Deputy Chief Minister at Raj Bhavan on 23 November 2019. Sharad Pawar believes that Ajit Pawar is constantly on the lookout for opportunities and will leave whenever he finds it beneficial to go with the BJP. Experts believe that Ajit Pawar currently does not have the same hold over NCP MLAs as he had a while ago.

Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule have continuously increased interaction with their MLAs. One big reason is also the defeat of BJP at the hands of Congress in Karnataka elections. Most of the MLAs of NCP feel that for the time being, there is an advantage in contesting elections only by being in alliance with the Maha Vikas Aghadi. Assembly elections are to be held in Maharashtra next year.

Sharad Pawar has given clear message

Ajit Pawar is more annoyed that his uncle made Praful Patel the working president. If Pawar had made only his daughter Supriya the working president, Ajit would have digested this decision once. But by promoting Patel, Sharad Pawar has given a clear message to the NCP workers and organization that now Ajit Pawar has been sidelined.

Ajit already has the big responsibility: Sharad

However, Sharad Pawar has said these reports are incorrect. He has said that Ajit already has the big responsibility of the Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. But political experts know that Ajit Pawar wants to take his uncle's chair in the party. There are Lok Sabha and Maharashtra assembly elections next year and at present BJP is looking at this as a big opportunity to make a dent in NCP.
