Odisha: Coromandel Express Collides With Goods Train, 30 Passengers Die In Accident



Balasore: There was chaos after the train accident in Balasore, Odisha. Coromandel Express (Train Number 12841 Howrah- Chennai) and goods train collided with each other and overturned near Bahanaga station here. As soon as the information about the accident was received, relief and rescue work was started on the spot. 


Sir M Visvesvaraya Terminal- Howrah also derailed

Train no 12864 SMVB-HWH Superfast Exp (Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal- Howrah) also got derailed at Bahanaga bazaar station. Bahanaga Bazar railway station is a railway station on Kharagpur–Puri line, part of the Howrah–Chennai main line under Kharagpur railway division of South Eastern Railway zone in Balasore district in Odisha.


In the  Coromandel Express accident, all the teams immediately reached the spot for search and rescue operation. The State Government also directed the Balasore Collector to reach the spot to make all necessary arrangements. Along with this, SRC was also informed if any additional help is required from the state level.


The accident took place in Balasore, Odisha on Friday at around 7.45 pm. Coromandel Express 12841 and goods train collided near Bahnaga station. Due to which 30 people have been reported dead. Along with this, around 179 people were injured. Apart from this, the condition of 30 people is said to be serious. The accident was so strong that the Coromandel Express derailed. Several coaches of the train climbed onto the goods train.
 

According to information, seven bogies of Coromandel have derailed. At present, the movement of all trains on this route has been stopped. 

 

Those injured in the accident have been admitted to Balasore Medical College. 10 passengers have been admitted here. According to the information received from the railway administration, 132 passengers injured in the accident have been admitted to Soro CHC, Gopalpur CHC and Khantapada PHC. Along with this, another NDRF team has been sent for rescue.


State CS Pradeep Jena told that about 50 ambulances have been deployed to transport the injured. Due to the huge number of injured, a large number of buses are being mobilized to take them to the hospital.

PM expresses grief

 

The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives due to  train accident in Odisha.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said: "Distressed by the train accident in Odisha. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. Spoke to Railway Minister @AshwiniVaishnaw and took stock of the situation. Rescue ops are underway at the site of the mishap and all possible assistance is being given to those affected."
