After the Asia Cup controversy ended, now a controversy seems to be brewing over Pakistan playing the ODI World Cup-2023. After agreeing to organize the Asia Cup on the hybrid model, Pakistan has started reluctant to play the World Cup going to be held in India.
Pakistan Cricket Board President Najam Sethi has said, 'Pakistan's participation in the World Cup will depend on the government's approval.'
Our govt will decide about going to India: Sethi
On Friday, when the media questioned Sethi about Pakistan coming to India to play the World Cup, he said, 'I have no answer to this question. We have written to ICC that we cannot give approval or disapproval on India tour. Our government will take this decision, just like the Government of India does. Whether we will play in Ahmedabad or not is a matter of later. When the time comes, it will be decided whether we will go or not.
After this statement of Sethi, a situation of confusion has arisen on Pakistan coming to India. Earlier, India had sent the World Cup schedule draft to the ICC, on which the India-Pakistan match has been proposed on October 15 in Ahmedabad.
Go, play and win: Shahid Afridi
Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has questioned PCB's flip-flop on the issue and claimed the Ahmedabad pitch neither hurls fire nor is it haunted, preventing PCB from sending the team.
"Why are they declining to play on Ahmedabad pitches? Does it hurl fire or is it haunted?" Afridi said while talking to a local news channel. "Go and play - go, play and win. If these are the foreseen challenges, then the only way to overcome them is through a comprehensive victory. What matters at the end of the day is the Pakistan team's win.
If they [India] are comfortable there, you should go, pull a victory in front of a packed Indian crowd and show them what you got," the former Pakistan cricketer added.
Team India last toured Pakistan in 2008
Team India last went to Pakistan for the Asia Cup played in the year 2008. Means it has been 15 years that Team India has not toured Pakistan. And India went to Pakistan last bilateral series in 2006. The last bilateral series between the two countries took place in January 2013 in India. Pakistan played 3 ODIs and 2 T20s on this tour.
