Delhi Floods: Supreme Court Entrance, Rajghat, ITO, Red Fort Inundated

New Delhi: This time the water level of Yamuna has reached a historic level in Delhi. Yamuna river is above the danger mark in Delhi since 4 days. More than 23 thousand people were taken to safe places from around Yamuna.

The floodwaters reached the entrance of the Supreme Court in central Delhi and submerged the busy ITO intersection and Rajghat. The Red Fort is currently closed for tourists due to water-logging.

The water level of the river is gradually decreasing. Despite this, floods continued in many areas of Delhi on Friday. In view of the flood water, the Delhi government has closed schools, colleges, cremation grounds and water treatment plants in the affected areas. Shutting of water treatment plants has led to drinking water ctisis in may areas.

The water level of the river till 6 am on Friday was 208.46 metres. This is slightly less than the previous night's water level of 208.66 metres. The Central Water Commission has expressed the possibility of further decrease in the water level. However, the flood waters of the Yamuna submerged many areas of Delhi.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Revenue Minister Atishi directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to seek help from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Army to prevent the entry of floodwaters to new areas in the national capital.

The flood water has reached Yamuna Bazaar, Red Fort, Raj Ghat and ISBT-Kashmiri Gate. Vehicles and goods were submerged in Yamuna Bazar area. Here the water was filled up to 3 feet.

Lt Governor and CM visit broken drainage

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and CM Arvind Kejriwal inspected the broken drainage near ITO. LG said, I would like to tell you that this is not the time to blame or comment on anyone. Right now we need to do teamwork.

According to Saurabh Bhardwaj, minister in the Delhi government, flood water is coming due to breakdown of the regulator of drainage number 12 near ITO. Army will repair broken drainage number 12 near ITO. From here the water of Yamuna is entering.

Meanwhile, PM Modi called Amit Shah from France to take stock of the flood situation in Delhi. Shah told the PM, the water level of Yamuna may decrease in the next 24 hours.
