Ahmedabad: A two-storey building collapsed in Junagadh, Gujarat following heavy rains in the district. On the information about the collapse of the building, the administration started the rescue operation there. There was a flood of water in Junagadh after heavy rains on Girnar Parvat resulting in a lot of damage.
The incident took place near Kadiawad on Datar Road in the city. Several people are feared to be buried in the tubble. The collapse of this building created panic in the entire area. The work of removing debris is still going on. The search is on for those buried in the debris.
Building was in crowded area
Datar Road is a very busy area of Junagadh. This building was located in a very crowded place. Police, commissioner, NDRF team, IG, DG are all present here to remove the debris of the building and the work of removing the debris is going on. Initial investigation has revealed that the building was very old and notices were also given to the people living in it.
District witnessed heavy rainfall
The incident occurred a day after the city witnessed torrential rains and water logging. Junagadh city recorded 241 mm rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 6 am on Sunday, causing waterlogging in several parts, leaving damaged cars piled on each other and carcasses of cattle swept away in flash floods.
As per IMD, heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places have been predicted for Monday in the districts of Saurashtra namely Porbandar and Dwarka.
