Madhya Pradesh Elections-2023: Vidisha Assembly Seat: Will BJP be able to snatch this seat from Congress? BJP was defeated in 2018

Vidisha: Political parties and leaders are gearing up for Madhya Pradesh Elections-2023. There are 5 assembly seats Vidisha, Basoda, Kurwai, Sironj, Shamshabad in Vidisha district coming in Bhopal division. Out of which 4 seats are unreserved while Kurwai seat is reserved for SC. Vidisha is the only assembly seat of the district which is with Congress.

In Vidisha, BJP's supremacy in district politics has been intact for many years, but last time BJP had to face defeat in Vidisha assembly constituency. Vidisha has also been the workplace of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In 1991, Atalji had made up his mind to contest the Lok Sabha elections from Vidisha and he also won in this election. Perhaps that's why this area is called BJP's stronghold.

But it does not take long for the political picture to change. In 2018, the Congress had won in this BJP bastion. Only time will tell who will win the assembly elections this time.

In the 2018 assembly elections, the Congress candidate stopped the BJP's victory chariot by winning. Caste equations matter a lot here. Vidisha has the maximum number of SC and ST voters. The number of voters belonging to OBC category is more. There are more than twenty thousand voters of Dangi and Kushwaha community in OBC.

Special features of Vidisha seat

Agricultural head, majority of voters farmers

Wheat and soybean are the main crops here

Here Betwa river is special for farmers

Vijay Mandir is a cave tourist place in Udayagiri.

There are many places of ancient and historical importance here.

Election activities have intensified in Vidisha assembly. Present Congress MLA, who is likely to be fielded this time again, has become active in the area. The assembly seat at Vidisha district headquarters has always been popular in the country. The present Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has also been elected MLA from this assembly seat.

Despite being a Dangi-dominated area, in 2018 the MLA elected from here belonged to Brahmin community. Congress had won here in 2018 after a gap of 46 years. Shashank Bhargava was elected Vidisha MLA from the Congress, while Mukesh Tandon, who was the municipality president from the BJP, contested from here but had to face defeat.

Farmers yearning for irrigation, youth for job

Most of the farmers are deprived of canal water in the Vidisha assembly constituency, which includes the tourist spot and grain market along the Betwa River. There are only a few areas where farmers irrigate their fields with the canals of Halali Dam. But this is insufficient. Lots of roads and bridges have been built but people are not happy with the quality of the roads. Medical college has come up but people are not satisfied due to lack of facilities like MRI. Describing the report card of the MLA, the opinion of the general public is that during these four and a half years the MLA did not do any remarkable work which can be taken care of further.

No process of any kind for employment was done by the government and the MLA. No big industry was also established here. Even after the names of big leaders are associated with Vidisha, the youth here have to migrate for employment. At the same time, some people are also of the opinion that since the MLA is from the Congress and the government is from the BJP, he has not been able to do much in this regard.

Legislator accused the govt of discrimination

MLA Shashank Bhargava counted the number of works done by him in the last four and a half years and said he has done maximum works. The MLA alleges that Vidisha was discriminated against even after the BJP was in power for 20 years. Shashank Bhargava says that the manner in which he had speeded up the development works in the initial one and a half years, after the change of government, he got stuck. Enumerating his works, he told that roads, community buildings, transformers, drinking water arrangements have been made in rural areas as well as cow shelters.

Will Tandon contest this time too?

This time too, there is going to be a tough fight here. It is believed that the ticket of sitting MLA Shashank Bhargava is fixed from the Congress side. On the other hand, former municipal president Mukesh Tandon, the nearest rival from the BJP last time, is being considered as the main contender. He is considered the most trusted of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh in Vidisha. Apart from them, former District Panchayat President Toran Singh Dangi, Manoj Katare, Arvind Srivastava are also the main contenders from here. Mukesh Tandon believes that MLA Shashank Bhargava has not come to serve the general public; rather he is a pure businessman and does politics to further this business.
