Uttar Pradesh: Sangam Nagari Prayagraj Becomes Shivmay On First Somwar Of Sawan 2023

Prayagraj: On the first Somwar (Monday) of the holy month of Sawan, with the Teerth Nagri Prayagraj becoming Shivmay, the chants of Har Har Mahadev, Bol Bam and Om Namah Shivay are being heard all around on the temples and ghats.

Temples reverberated with the chants of ‘Bam Bam Bholey’ and ‘Har Har Mahadev’ as devotees welcomed the first Monday of Shrawan month by visiting various Shiva temples in Prayagraj.

Kanwariyas gathered at Dashashwamedh Ghat

Kanwariyas started gathering at the mythical Dashashwamedh Ghat of Prayagraj. A large number of kanwariyas are leaving for Kashi Vishwanath and Baba Vaidyanath Dham by filling water from here. Devotees have started every effort to please Devadhidev Mahadev in the month of Sawan. On the first Monday of Shravan, there is an influx of Kanwariyas for the Jalabhishek of Baba Vishwanath and Baba Baijnath.

Barefoot devotees kept coming out throughout the day after filling water from the Dashashwamedh Ghat. Due to this, the Prayagraj-Varanasi highway from Jhunsi Shastri Bridge looked saffron in colour. Kanwariyas were seen moving with the cheers of Bol Bam. The area became Shivmay as groups of devotees came out dancing and singing.

Devotees had darshan at Mankameshwar Mahadev Temple

Separate barricades have been made for the darshan of male and female devotees at the Mankameshwar Mahadev Temple located on the banks of the Yamuna. Along with Mangal Aarti at Mankameshwar temple at 4 am on Monday, doors were opened for common devotees. Barricading was also done at Someshwar Mahadev Temple in Arail for the convenience of the devotees.

Long queues of devotees seen

Priest Sonu Puri told that the darshan-worship started from five o'clock in the morning itself. Long queues of devotees were seen in many Shivalayas including Takshak Tirtha and Nagvasuki Temple in Daraganj for Jalabhishek and darshan-worship. Similarly, Jalabhishek is also being performed at Bhardwajeshwar Mahadev Temple located at Balsan Square.

Shiva devotees performed Jalabhishek in Shivalayas

Dr. Atmaram Gautam, former Acharya of Vedic Research and Cultural Foundation, Ritual Training Center, told that on the first Monday of Shravan, a unique confluence of auspicious yoga-constellations has been formed. This time the combination of favorable planets will make the Jalabhishek ritual special. After taking a dip in the Sangam, Shiva devotees performed Jalabhishek in the Shivalayas of the city to fulfill their wishes. Filling water from the Dashashwamedh Ghat, a large number of Kanwariyas have left for the Jalabhishek of Baba Vishwanath.
