Sexual Harassment Of Wrestlers: Court Summons Ex-WFI Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh

New Delhi: A Delhi Court, after taking cognizance of the chargesheet in the wrestlers' sexual harassment case filed against BJP MP and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, has issued summons for his appearance on July 18.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal adjourned the matter for July 18 after taking cognizance of the chargesheet.

In the matter, the court has also issued summons to Vinod Tomar, Singh's Assistant Secretary.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Mahima Rai Singh on June 22 after hearing the submission on behalf of the Public Prosecutor, transferred the chargesheet to the ACMM's court for hearing.

Delhi Police had filed a chargesheet under sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) defined under Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Singh on June 15.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been accused of offences under Sections 109 (abetting officer), 354, 354A, 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. Reportedly, the charge sheet contains statements of around 200 witnesses.

Last week, the CMM transferred the alleged sexual harassment case to the court of ACMM Jaspal, who deals with cases of MPs and MLAS, and was scheduled to take up the charge sheet for consideration on Tuesday.

In the FIR registered at Connaught Place police station, it has been alleged by the six adult grapplers that Singh allegedly attempted to coerce one athlete into sexual acts by offering to provide her with “supplements”, invited another wrestler to his bed and hugging her, as well as assaulting and inappropriately touching other athletes.
