Transformer Blast In Chamoli, Uttarakhand: At least 15 Die, Many Injured, Accident Occurred On Banks Of Alaknanda River,



A major accident took place in Uttarakhand on Wednesday. According to media reports,  at least 15 people have died in a transformer blast in Chamoli. Many people are injured. The blast took place near the Alaknanda river. After this the current spread and many people came in its grip.


Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar said that so far 15 deaths have been reported. Out post incharge of Pipalkoti is also among those who dead.


Chamoli police told that a dead body was lying on the bank of the river. Many people had gone to see it, they too got electrocuted. According to some reports, the work was going on under the Namami Gange project on the banks of the river. 


Many labourers were also injured due to electrocution. The injured have been admitted to the district hospital. Rescue and relief work has been started.


According to Prima Facie there was current on the railing, said Additional Director General of Police, Uttarakhand, V Murugesan.


He said, "Around 10 people including a police sub-inspector have died. Investigation is underway. Prima facie reveals that there was current on the railing and the investigation will reveal the further details."


Chamoli SP Parmendra Doval told that ten people have died in the accident. Chamoli Police Control Room told that about twenty people have been admitted to the hospital.


Magisterial probe ordered


Expressing grief over the accident, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered a magisterial inquiry.


He tweeted and wrote, "Received very painful news of many casualties due to electrocution in Chamoli. Those injured in the accident have been sent to the nearest hospital for treatment. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered into this unfortunate incident. I pray to God for the peace of the departed souls and speedy recovery of the injured."
