Tiger's roar will be heard in Rajasthan's Mewar as well. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has given in-principle consent for the 'Kumbhalgarh Tiger Reserve'.
The government had sent the report recently, on which the green signal was shown in the meeting held on 4th August. Notification will be issued soon. After this, the state government will have to do necessary work for the Tiger Reserve.
Work will begin to develop suitable habitat for big cats
Kumbhalgarh Tiger Reserve comes in Rajsamand district. MP from here and member of NTCA committee Diya Kumari has also given her reaction on this matter.
Rajsamand MP Diya Kumari said, "Approval has been received from the National Tiger Conservation Authority and the decks have been cleared for Kumbhalgarh Tiger Reserve as the fourth tiger reserve of the state. Now work has to start to develop suitable habitat for the big cats."
'
Reserve will have core area of 800 sq km
Tiger reserve will be spread over 2766 square km. There will be core area of 800 sq km, which will comprise forests of Kumbhalgarh, Aravali and Todgarh.
The number of tigers in the state rose to 100 in 2021, after which the number has reached 120 in August 2023. Of these, Ranthambore alone has 84 tigers.
Challenges before govt
However, there are many challenges before the government regarding the project. There is not enough prey base of Sambhar, Chital etc. which the big cats need to survive. It is necessary to develop grasslands in the forest, so that herbivores can multiply
Like other tiger reserves, there are more than 20 villages here too. Even more villages are settled on the periphery. There is pressure of cattle in the forest.
Consent of gram panchayat-sabhas will have to be taken for buffer in 1400 sq km revenue land. Besides, two roads of 6-7 km each are passing through the core area.
