Devotees Throng Mahakaleshwar Temple In Ujjain On Fifth Somwar Of Sawan


Ujjain: Today, on the fifth Monday of the month of Sawan, a large number of devotees had darshan at Lord Mahakaleshwar Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of the country, in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh and worshipped with rituals.


In the month of Shravan, devotees from many states of the country visit the south-facing Lord Mahakaleshwar temple. People from abroad come to visit Lord Mahakal. Thousands of devotees participated in the Bhasma Aarti early in the morning. On account of Adhimas, crowd of devotees was also seen in other temples including 84 Mahadev and other temples in the city and surrounding areas.


Kartikeya Mandap of temple kept empty for devotees 


Sources of the temple management committee told that today the doors of Lord Mahakaleshwar temple were opened from 02:30 am, after that a large number of devotees paid obeisance to God. The Kartikeya Mandap of the temple was kept empty for the devotees coming to Bhasmarti so that more and more people could have darshan at bhasma aarti.


Bhasma aarti is a famous ritual here. It is performed during the 'Brahma Muhurta' around 3:30 and 5:30 in the morning.


Holy bath of Baba Mahakal was performed 


According to the priest of the temple Gaurav Sharma, before the Bhasma Aarti, the holy bath of Baba Mahakal with water and Panchamrit Mahabhishek were performed in which the Lord was anointed with milk, curd, ghee, honey, and fruit juices. After that Baba Mahakal was decorated with bhang, sandalwood, and then dressed in clothes. Thereafter, Bhasma Aarti was performed amid the beating of drums and blowing of conch shells.


Arrangements were made for the convenient darshan for devotees from all the gates of Mahakaleshwar temple, Kavad Yatris, elderly people, differently-abled also had darshan conveniently.
