Himachal Pradesh: Another Landslide Hits Shimla; 4-5 Houses Collapse; 2 Die, Many Buried In Debris



Shimla: A major accident took place in Himachal's Shimla for the second consecutive day. The Slaughter House of Municipal Corporation along with 4-5 houses built along with it collapsed in Krishna Nagar on Tuesday. The houses built along with it crumbled down one after the other. Many people are feared to be buried under the debris. Administrative officers including DC Aditya Negi have reached the spot. Rescue operation has been started.


Locals in the area are moving to safety fearing their house could collapse next as they are situated adjacent to where the landslide took place. NDRF and SDRF teams are carrying out rescue operation in the area.


Aditya Negi, deputy commissioner, Shimla, said they received information at 5 pm that around 5-6 houses have collapsed. NDRF, SDRF teams are present at the spot. Rescue operation is underway, he said.


According to chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, two people died so far in the incident but many more are feared trapped


2 more bodies were recovered from ruins of  Shiv temple 


In the meantime, two more bodies were discovered on Tuesday from the ruins of a destroyed Shiv temple in Shimla. Rescuers are worried that 10 more victims may still be trapped there as the number of people killed in Himachal Pradesh’s rainstorm since Sunday night increased to 55, according to the official statements.


The JCB of the Border Road Organization (BRO) has searched the stepwell of the temple, where people are suspected to be buried. NDRF, SDRF, Police and Army personnel are engaged in clearing the debris.


The officials reported that there have now been 16 fatalities at the twin landslip locations in Shimla’s Summer Hill and Fagli.


Since Sunday, heavy rains have pounded Himachal Pradesh, causing landslides, cloudbursts, and traffic blockages as well as cases of house collapse..


Girl rescued in Fagli


Earlier, a video of a girl rescued alive in the debris has surfaced in Shimla's Fagli. SSB jawans rescued the girl after 5 hours of the incident. In Fagli, 10 people from two families were buried in a landslide that occurred at 7.30 am on Monday (August 14). Five of them were pulled out after 5 hours of rescue, while 5 died.
