A bad news has come out for India before the Asian Games. Star female wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been injured and that is why she is out of the Asian Games. Vinesh Phogat herself has given this information through a social media post.
Vinesh Phogat got a direct entry in the Asian Games. She announced on Tuesday that she would not be able to participate in the Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China due to a knee injury.
The exemption granted to Vinesh and Bajrang Punia from the Asian Games trials had created a controversy and the decision of the ad-hoc panel was strongly criticized by the wrestling fraternity.
Vinesh may undergo surgery on 17 Aug
Star female wrestler Vinesh wrote in the post, 'I want to share a bad news. Two days ago on 13 August 2023, during practice, my left knee got injured. After scans and tests the doctors said that unfortunately the only treatment for this injury is surgery.'
Vinesh said, 'I will have an operation on August 17 in Mumbai. It was my dream to win the gold medal that I won for India at the Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018, but unfortunately due to this injury, I will no longer be able to participate in these Games.
Antim Panghal to join the team
Vinesh Phogat has told that she has informed the concerned authorities, so that reserve players can be sent for the Asian Games. This has cleared the way for Antim Panghal to join the team. She had won the trials and was kept as standby.
Vinesh wrote, 'I urge all my fans to continue supporting me, so that I can make a strong comeback soon and prepare for the Paris Olympics. Your support gives me strength.'
