Kullu: Seven buildings collapsed within 30 seconds on Thursday morning in Anni area of Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district, throwing up large clouds of dust and debris. There were no casualties as the administration had got these buildings vacated three days in advance. Nearby 2-3 buildings are still at risk. The movement of people has been banned here.
The buildings housing shops, banks and other commercial establishments had developed cracks four-five days ago, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Anni, Naresh Verma said. The buildings were declared unsafe and vacated recently, he said.
Kullu-Manali highway closed
Meanwhile, 12 people died in rain-related incidents in the state in the last 24 hours. Of these, 7 deaths occurred due to landslides in Mandi and Shimla. Besides, many houses were destroyed and 400 roads were blocked. The Kullu-Manali highway was also closed due to heavy rains.
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy rains in the entire state for the next two days. All schools and colleges will remain closed today in 3 districts of Himachal – Shimla, Mandi and Solan.
The Meteorological Department has on Thursday issued an alert for heavy rain in 15 states including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. At the same time, alert of moderate rain has been issued in 6 states including Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Heavy rain will occur over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Sikkim, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram, Tripura and Manipur.
Moderate rain will occur in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan.
