In the last one year, the player whose absence has been felt the most by the Indian team is Jasprit Bumrah.
But Jasprit Bumrah’s return in Team India is likely to boost Team India’s chances for 2023 World Cup
and 2023 Asia Cup.
Bumrah played his last international match on September 22, 2022
Fast bowler Bumrah played his last international match on September 22 last year, in which he spent 50 runs without taking any wicket.
After that in the T20 series against Australia, Bumrah was out of the team due to injury.
We do not have a line of fast bowlers: Rohit
In this span of 11 months, the Indian fast bowling was under maximum pressure. Even the Indian captain Rohit Sharma went so far as to say before the first test match against the West Indies that the Indian pace attack is facing problems.
Talking to the media, he had said, "For the last several months we have been playing without Bumrah and we have had to rotate the fast bowlers but we do not have a line of fast bowlers."
At this time, the difficulties that the Indian team is facing in balancing the pace attack can be solved by the return of Bumrah.
The 29-year-old Bumrah still has many more years of cricket left in him, so his return in the upcoming T20 series against Ireland has been welcomed by the Indian team.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) told in its press release that Jasprit Bumrah will not only return to the Indian team in the T20 series against Ireland, but he will also lead the team.
Major boost to India
With the 50-over World Cup less than three months away, Bumrah's return to full fitness will come as a major boost to India who will be vying to win their third World Cup. Along with Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj, Bumrah forms a potent three-pronged pace attack.
India is currently playing a three-match ODI series in West Indies which will be followed by a five-match T20I series that ends in Florida on August 13. The three matches against Ireland will be played on August 18, 20, and 23 before the team heads to the Asia Cup ODIs (August 30-Sept 17).
With no competitive cricket behind his back since last September, and given the nature of injury he suffered, he is being handled with extra care. It is learnt that Bumrah isn’t showing any discomfort at the nets, where he is training on a daily basis.
