Andhra Pradesh: Chandrababu Naidu In Prison; Will Get These Amenities In Jail; What TDP Will Do Now?

Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu was taken to the Central Prison in Andhra Pradesh's Rajamahendravaram in the early hours of Monday. A court in Vijayawada sent him to judicial custody for 14 days in multi-crore corruption case, officials said.

East Godavari district Superintendent of Police P Jagadish said Chandrababu Naidu went in the prison around 1:20 am.

The Telugu Desam Party has called for a statewide bandh on Monday in protest against the arrest of its leader.

In a statement, TDP state president K Atchannaidu requested the party cadre, people, and civil society to participate in the agitation. “The Telugu Desam Party has called for a statewide bandh … in protest against the illegal arrest of Nara Chandrababu Naidu, atrocities on the party cadre, and vengeful politics.”

Naidu will get these amenities in jail

Home-cooked food, medication and a special room were among the amenities granted by the court to the 73-year-old former chief minister during his judicial custody.

Naidu has been provided with a separate accommodation inside the jail in view of the purported threat to his life. He is a Z-plus category security protectee.

Naidu's son and TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh trailed his father to the prison gates and waited outside for some time before leaving.

Naidu was arrested in the Skill Development Corporation scam case on Saturday at Nandyala.

Naidu's arrest comes just months before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls when political temperatures are soaring and at a time when the TDP is struggling to return to power in the state while trying to project Naidu's son Nara Lokesh, who is on a marathon statewide foot march, as the future leader of the party.
