Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu Arrested; Son Nara Lokesh Also Detained By CID

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party chief Chandrababu Naidu was arrested in Nandyala in the skill development scam case. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had issued a non-bailable warrant against him.

At the same time, Andhra Pradesh Police has detained Chandrababu's son Nara Lokesh from East Godavari district. Lokesh was hiking here. He was not allowed to go to Vijayawada.

Chandrababu Naidu was arrested by the CID from R K Function Hall at Gnanapuram in Nandyala town, an official said. After his arrest, he was to be taken to Nandyal Hospital for medical examination, but after he refused, his medical checkup was done at the camp site itself. From here he is being taken to Vijayawada where he will be presented in the court.

CBI had registered an FIR on December 9, 2021 in the skill development scam case. According to media reports, this scam is worth more than Rs 250 crore. 25 people were made accused in this. However, Naidu's name was not in this FIR. CID claims that Chandrababu has been arrested on the basis of what has come to light in the investigation.

Naidu has been arrested under relevant Indian Penal Code sections, including Sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and 465 (forgery), according to the notice.

The Andhra Pradesh CID has also invoked the Prevention of Corruption Act against him.

Party workers clashed with police

CID officials and Nandyal district police, led by Kurnool range DIG Raghurami Reddy, reached the camp site where Naidu was staying around 3 am. On reaching there, they tried to arrest Naidu, but was stopped by party supporters.

There was also a clash between police and party workers. When the workers did not let police go in, the police took some of them into custody. TDP party workers later staged demonstration to protest Naidu's arrest. According to officials, a large number of police forces have been deployed in the area.

No evidence against me, Naidu had said

Chandrababu Naidu had expressed apprehension of his arrest on 6 September. During an interaction with people in Raidurgam in Anantapur district, he had said – they can arrest me anytime. I may also be attacked. They will commit not just one but many atrocities on me.

The former chief minister had claimed that there was no evidence against him. No case was registered against him in his career of 45 years. Former CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy filed several cases against him, but to no avail
