Lok Sabha Elections 2024: BJP To Tie-up With JDS In Karnataka

The Bharatiya Janata Party will tie up with former prime minister H D Deve Gowda-led Janata Dal-Secular for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said on Friday. The announcement has shot up political temperature in Karnataka.

The veteran leader, who is also the BJP parliamentary board member, said that, as part of the poll understanding, the JD-S will contest in four Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, which has a total of 28 constituencies.

The announcement comes months after Deve Gowda, in July, said that his party would contest the Lok Sabha elections alone, denying the possibility of an electoral alliance with the BJP-led NDA.

Former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy has claimed at various times that the JDS would fight alone, while HD Devegowda had said the party cadre were not slaves of any National party.

Despite these claims the party which won only 19 seats in the 2023 Karnataka assembly elections knows that its survival depends on supporting a larger national alliance.

Tie-up will help us in winning 25 or 26 LS seats together: Yediyurappa

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, he said, 'this has given us great strength and this will help us in winning 25 or 26 Lok Sabha seats together'.

The BJP swept the 2019 Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka by winning 25 seats, while an independent backed by it won in one seat.

The Congress and JD-S emerged victorious in one seat each.
